you know sometimes you watch something and think to yourself…i should really do something about this…but you don’t? it’s called the bystander effect & i have spent this week writing a research paper all about it.
well tonight, not only did i stand by & watch this lot wrestle crazily on a bed, but i also photographed all the action! then when i was done, i just walked away and left them to it.
(thankfully it all ended happily)

fairly typical saturday today – union & afl, but no hockey as the fields are still flooded. the kids spent the entire afternoon over at the park, kicking the footy, playing tennis and generally burning up some of their endless energy.

we had our usual friday afternoon gathering today – good food, music, company and lots of kids running wild!

weird stuff has been happening around here.
the kids have been HAPPILY playing footy together every afternoon from the minute we get home til dark
they are eating stacks of fruit and asking for it in preference to anything else
reading has become a priority for them all
they are spending hours playing trivial pursuit together
and they’re happy to practise piano & guitar without me nagging…
it’s not going to last for long i know
but i will marvel at it all while i can!
and today
we managed to fit in a girls lunch – hilda, sharon, jo & me! seems the planets all have to be aligned for that to happen (too many shift workers involved)
then this afternoon
finally some afternoon fun over at melrose with the gang – beer o’clock, skateboarding and a game of duck, duck, goose.

a few weeks ago louise gave me a cd she had made called “mummy”. i decided to return the favour today and made up a few “mel-o” cd’s….i took a few classics, revived some daggy oldies and combined them with some newbies…the only criteria being that each and every song has great sing along potential!

i had a quiet chuckle to myself recently when zach came home and told me he’d joined the school choir. he is actually quite good at holding a tune, but being in the choir is just not de rigueur.
tonight we headed off to nudgee to watch him sing and it was great. nothing like the “choir” i had imagined. it was a total performance – modern music, costumes, movement, lights and even a rock band.
nudgee’s school philosophy really promotes balance. the school is happy to applaud the boys achievements but temper them with the reminder that life is about more than just those achievements. the fact that zach and hundreds of other boys performed tonight seems to indicate they are getting the message across. they also strongly promote a sense of community and building school spirit. that also shone through tonight. loved it!

this weekend has been lovely and quiet
all sport was cancelled due to the flooding earlier in the week
so we have had the luxury of just staying at home
the weather is still a bit crazy though
today we have had all 4 seasons in a matter of minutes several times over
we were over at the park kicking the footy, climbing trees and chatting with friends under lovely blue sky when suddenly the wind whipped up and the rain started pouring down. 15 minutes later we were back at the park under blue sky again
the kids have played trivial pursuit & read – 2 things they don’t do voluntarily all that often

and we finished the lazy weekend with a timely beer o’clock
