cross country today.
after their one huge training session, cam, georgia & anna all finished middle of the field in their races– not too bad an effort! eggy however took out 3rd place in his race, also after only one training session. well done eggy!

georgia hopped in the car after school today and boldly told me she & anna had decided they want to start training for cross country. ok i said to her that is fine, except that the cross country is on wednesday…less than 48 hours away. hardly the best time to implement a training schedule. but no, they wanted to go through with their plan – and they did! they went down to shaw park and ran the course. cam even found the enthusiasm to join them. all came home very proud of themselves, and with quiet ambition to do well on wednesday.
just so you know, the cross country is quite a serious business for some. they really do have training plans that start weeks, if not months prior to the day. they talk strategy and tactic. mmm. louise and i decided not to be outdone so we too talked strategy and tactic. in fact we hatched our own little plan. it’s been a year in the making. watch out for an appearance by b1 & b2 on wednesday!

we woke to a beautiful crisp autumn morning. made me very excited especially as we had to travel over to kenmore for zach’s afl game. but the weather gods were just tricking, by mid morning it was HOT.

while the boys warmed up for their game, i took the other boys down to jindalee for a skate. i was amazed to see how far their skating had come. the last time i was at jindalee with them, about 12 months ago, there was not much they could attempt – the half pipe especially was way too big. but today there was nothing there they could not do!

made it back to kenmore to see all but the first quarter. the kedron boys had another big win, so they were pretty pleased with themselves.

i had promised a skate stop at milton ghetto on the way home. the ghetto is basically an old dilapidated area that used to house tennis courts. the “skate park” has been made out of anything & everything people have dumped there. this means it is ever changing. bricks, bits of timber, concrete slabs, metal rods, couches…you name it it’s there…and the boys absolutely love it! they ‘rig’ their own jumps and grind rails. so not only do they get to skate they get to rig – and there is a lot of kudos to be got from that! despite the fact that it was stinking hot with not an inch of shade to be found, we all had lots of fun. the photo opportunities were great. naturally i took stacks and my faves are at flickr. i mucked around with the colour on some of them trying to make them a bit more urbanish & washed out. what do you think?

today turned out to be exactly the day i needed. a very good ‘mental health’ day.

i started the day with what was going to be a quiet coffee with lisa & karen at saabi, but saabi was obviously THE place to be – pumping with people – not the best thing in such a small space. the coffee & company were lovely though, so all was good.

next stop sharon’s. more coffee & happy banter.

 

and this afternoon. what a delight! a session with louise & all the kids here at devon tor –with an added bonus – a cameo by paul! we did all the usual things we love to do together.

we ate – lots of gourmet goodies…we won’t soon forget those prawns will we?
we drank – flirtini’s
we talked – a gamut of topics. in the end it was decided we should all go and live commune style in nimbin – just chillaxing without a care in the world.
we sang – someone so much is the fave right now
we danced – just a few lil dance moves around the table
we took photos – ‘midget’ georgia in catherine’s all hallows uniform on a skateboard a la celine from summer heights high…
we skated – well the boys did! paul took them down to capalaba for a night skate and it was after 11 when they got back.
& we laughed – how could we not?

and happy birthday to my mum. she is an amazing mum and even though she lives so far away, still manages to provide invaluable support to the kids & to me.

are you ever forced to be around someone you would prefer not to be with? like at work?

and when you are feeling mentally & physically exhausted the aggravation they cause you is amplified infinitely?

every time he speaks it feels like someone is scraping their finger nails down a black board. sometimes it is a struggle to just be polite. i sit and think…pleeeease don’t attempt to start a conversation with me. i just can’t do it.

it is a bit out of character for me. i am usually fairly tolerant. i work with, and really enjoy working with a vast cross section of people. most of them i would never look twice at if i met them outside of work – our lives are just so different. and yet at work we find common ground. we are forced to work closely together for hours on end. some of them have even become confidants. i love that our worlds outside of work will never collide – it creates a certain safe haven.

my mood seems to be influenced often by those around me. especially on a day like today when i am feeling so very tired. once he left my mood lightened. someone who makes me laugh arrived and immediately started having a go at me. i was back in my element. he stirred; i stirred back. insults and innuendo. now that makes me happy.

georgia is one of those kids that are always busy. she is always up to something. but more often than not that ‘something’ is not something that actually needs to be done at that moment in time. there are usually far more pressing things that need to be done, but unfortunately she is simply not interested in doing them.

and tonight was a perfect example. everyone had double homework to do because nothing got done last night. but instead of doing her homework, she was in the cupboard looking for ‘those things’.

“mum…where are those things??”
“what things?? just get your homework done and leave me to cook dinner please”
“no i want to find them”
“no, you need to get your homework done”

and so it went on…round in circles…everyone got cranky…
we sat down for dinner and she produces ‘those things’ she had been so determined to find. they’re called ice breakers and they are little cardboard discs that fit around the bottom of glasses with mind teaser type questions printed on them. we ended up having lots of fun trying to guess the right answers! just what we needed.
