campbell wasn’t feeling well today and after a restful morning we headed up to chermside to meet louise for lunch. while we were there i had other things to do, one of which was to try and find a new necklace to wear out for lunch on friday. cam jokingly thought it would be a good idea to get a massive blinged up ‘40’ or ‘M’ to hang around my neck! noice!

i lamented about this over coffee with louise – and guess what – the paperwork in her house also does the ‘shuffle’. in fact, she came up with the fabulous idea of putting it all in some kind of trolley so that it could simply be wheeled around the house…

as i just may have mentioned previously, i am so over the heat and humidity. this morning zach and i headed up to nudgee college for a house breakfast. 7am start. and already everyone was complaining about the heat. the breakfast on the other hand was great, and i got to meet zach’s homeroom teacher, house master and some lovely mums.
and perhaps today i will have to consider myself lucky. working on a friday evening is not something i would normally list as fortunate , but work is air conditioned – so that’s good, right?

i had a really lovely time with louise today. we went to the new palace barracks cinema to see “the reader” and then for a delicious lunch.
the movie was good. i enjoyed it. but i will have to disagree with the critics and say i think “changeling” was better – it got to me more, and emotionally i had way more invested in it.
i guess i left “the reader” wondering just how far is it worth going to save face. in this case –admitting to illiteracy was apparently something more to be ashamed of than participating in the holocaust atrocities. the unspoken truth still unsaid even when everything was at risk.

had coffee with lisa this morning. lisa has just moved up from melbourne. i really struggled when we first arrived here – for a number of reasons, but mostly because brisbane was such a dive back then. we left a city that basically didn’t sleep. we could finish work at 10pm and head out for dinner. we lived around the corner from a 24 hour coles. things were vibrant and ever changing. we arrived in a city with shops that closed at 5pm and were not allowed to open on sundays. a city that other than the coffee club (yuk) barely had a coffee shop worth a mention. thinking back over the years, so much has changed. i would still not call brisbane cosmopolitan by any stretch of the imagination, but certainly it has plenty more to offer. the change has been quite amazing given most of it has happened in less than 10 years.
so going for coffee can now be a little tricky! karen you would be amazed! where will we go…jett…the coffee guy on kent rd…the coffee guy on shaw rd…dolci sapori…the red deli…valentino’s…simply duo…jam…espresso…the new one at eagle junction – all within about a 2km radius from my house!
today we tried yet another new one – saabi on manson.
and it was most enjoyable.

was bored at work this morning.
so quickly jotted down the first 25 things that popped into my head.
karen, betty, lee, lis you are up next!
1. i drink port and coke – together! with ice!!
2. i LOVE to sing…especially daggy old ballads.
3. i am shy.
4. i don’t eat tomatoes or peas. i love oysters.
5. i am intrigued by people – their interactions, relationships and motivations. i find it interesting that words can go unspoken for so many years. and i want to understand the fine line that sometimes exists between love and hate.
6. i am deeply sentimental – not so much about things – i am not a hoarder; but rather about people, places, music, and things said & done.
7. i’m not at all a ‘look at me’ kind of person.
8. i never really knew what i wanted to “do” when i grew up. when i left school i studied economics, ended up working in aviation – and 20 years later am still in the same job, i have a passion for photography, love architecture and design, and now study psychology.
9. i am very loyal.
10. i would love to be able to write…to have the words flow freely and to make my ramblings profound.
11. i am very recognisable because of my hair -not inconspicuous at all!
12. everywhere i have ever lived i have been mistaken for other people. strangers often approach me thinking i am someone else.
13. i hate drinking anything out of cans – give me bottles any day.
14. you’ll ALWAYS find me on the dance floor.
15 .i HATE eels and snakes come a close second.
16. i don’t have a favourite colour.
17. i always glance at my stars in any magazine or newspaper i read – not sure why that is.
