freya is so beautiful.
i love her muted reflection
and her contemplative mood.
i love the curved waters edge
and the way the ripples in the water show where she has been.

i took lots of photos at shorncliffe and this is one of my faves
not sure why…think it’s the mood it portrays
i just like photos that don’t meet any kind of prescribed formula
i like the photos that are not necessarily centred, with everyone looking at the camera, perfect lighting etc

yesterday afternoon we spent some time at shorncliffe with the penny’s.
i must say, after growing up in nsw, it took some time to get used to the brisbane definition of a “beach”. looks more like mud flats to me. but having said that, i have grown accustomed to it. the kids have fun visiting on low tide and there are some great parks and bike tracks around for them to enjoy.

meet marto.footy coach extraordinaire.legendary story teller.

marto has coached zach’s union team since they started playing 7 seasons ago. they have come so far, and this season are playing in first grade. marto has been there every step of the way with good advice, strategy, humour, and support. he has taught the boys team work and good sportsmanship. he has really been the glue that has held this great team of players and parents together. its been a fun ride, but sadly this will probably be our last year with norths, as zach will play for his school next year.
it will be tough to say goodbye.

my entire day has been full of footy.
the boys both played afl this morning, and georgia hockey. all at the same time!
thank goodness for paul and for louise, who once again saved me from having to split myself three ways.
after lunch we went around to shaw park to watch our rugby union team norths take on local rivals brothers. the afternoon was absolutely magnificent. the result not so much.
the evening saw us off to the gabba to watch the brisbane lions take on the west coast eagles. we thrashed them, so the day finished on a very happy note!

today we had lunch at a local restaurant, rhubarb rhubarb to celebrate michelle’s 40th birthday.
it is within walking distance of most of our houses, so we gathered there, had a lovely lunch, and then all the kids walked to the restaurant together after school.
it was lovely to watch a gang of 15 of them from grade 1 through to grade 7 descend upon us.

today is also my dad’s 70th birthday. wow, i cant believe he is 70 because he still behaves like he is 30! he is never home as he prefers to be out and about travelling or socialising. for his present we filled out a big book full of lots of stories and memories. on one page we each had to describe him in 3 words…

generous. fun. loyal

i love these little kosta boda glass bottles
i have had them for about 15 years
can still remember buying them from david jones at roselands in sydney
whenever i think of roselands i think of lethal leeroy edwards
and also martin, whose sister sold them to me. her claim to fame was that chris isaak spotted her in the crowd at one of his concerts, asked her backstage, and she ended up spending the weekend with him.

student free day?

well not around here anyway!
zach, anna, freya and catherine decided to run a community kitchen and offer free cinnamon pancakes on behalf of their newly formed fha (free hug association) this morning
then everyone got down to business and headed to the park for a bit of skateboarding
later we gathered together a couple of old ice cream containers, some buckets, a fishing net, an old pool scoop, and 2 kitchen colanders and walked down to the creek in search of tadpoles.
the kids amused themselves there for ages
surprisingly (not!) some of them even managed to fall into the water and get rather wet too
luckily it was a warm winters day here. we hit 26 degrees
the rest of the afternoon was spent between the park, skateboarding and riding out the front on the road, the trampoline, playstation and computer…oh and eating chocolate fudge brownie.
a great way to finish the holidays!
